Money Market 4.9%: the questions that matter

A 4.9% money market headline can be useful, but only after you understand the fine print. This page explains how to inspect the claim without treating it as guaranteed income.

Is it APY?

APY includes compounding assumptions. APR or simple interest language may not describe the same annual result.

Is it temporary?

Some rates are promotional, introductory, relationship-based, or subject to change without advance notice.

Is there a tier?

A rate may apply only above or below a balance threshold, or only to a limited portion of the balance.

Is access limited?

Transfers, withdrawals, debit features, check writing, or settlement timing can affect how useful the account is.

Use 4.9% as a signal to read, not a reason to rush. A clean evaluation includes fees, liquidity, insurance language, eligibility, and the provider’s current official disclosures.
